Accuracy evaluation of SRTM and ASTER DSMs

چکیده
Over the last few years DSMs derived from satellite sensors, as SRTM (Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) and ASTER (Advance Space borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) DSMs, have been issued and continuously updated. The SRTM DSM is delivered in three different versions (Finished, DTED, CGIAR), with different nominal accuracy covering a large part of the world at a resolution of 3’’ x 3’’. The goal of the work is to evaluate these products by a comparison carried out over Colli Albani area in Italy with two reference DSMs obtained by a LIDAR survey and by a CARTOSAT-1 stereopair, in order to assess both mean accuracy and its dependency on morphology and land cover types.

Local Detection of Three-Dimensional Systematic Errors in Satellite DSMs: Case Studies of SRTM and ASTER in Lombardy
In this paper we present a method for detecting three-dimensional systematic errors of Digital Surface Models (DSMs) derived from satellite data. The detection process is realized via a three-dimensional comparison with reference altimetric models of better accuracy, by a matching process based on a 3D geospatial transformation without scale factor correction. The matching process of the two al...
متن کاملAccuracy Assessment of Global Topographic Data (srtm & Aster Gdem) in Comparison with Lidar for Tropical Montane Forest
Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) and ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) provide topographic data in a global scale which are freely available for users. The potential use of these datasets for many forestry applications is highly depending on the accuracy of the datasets. In this study, we evaluated the accuracy of SRTM and ASTER GDEM version 2 with high accuracy topographic da...
متن کاملUpdating the 1:50.000 topographic maps using ASTER and SRTM DEM: the case of Athens, Greece [6366-6]
The 1:50.000 topographic maps present a nominal horizontal accuracy of 20 meters and a nominal vertical accuracy of 10 meters with 90% confidence. The data were in most cases extracted with photogrammetric techniques from aerial stereo-photographs during the 80’s. The usual update rate for these maps ranges from ten to twenty years. The Advanced Spaceborn Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiome...
متن کاملExternal Validation of the ASTER GDEM2, GMTED2010 and CGIAR-CSI- SRTM v4.1 Free Access Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) in Tunisia and Algeria
Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) including Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer-Global Digital Elevation Model (ASTER GDEM), Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), and Global Multi-resolution Terrain Elevation Data 2010 (GMTED2010) are freely available for nearly the entire earth’s surface. DEMs that are usually subject to errors need to be evaluated using reference e...
متن کاملAnalsysis of Aster Gdem Elevation Models
Digital elevation models (DEM) are of fundamental importance for remote sensing. With a DEM the three-dimensional positioning, requiring a stereo model can be reduced to a two-dimensional solution just based on a single image. With the free of charge availability of the SRTM-height models, covering the land area from 56° southern up to 60.25° northern latitude a nearly world wide coverage is gi...
